If you are looking for a neat and compact way to add a Wi-Fi boost and smartpone controls to your standard DSLR camera the new Weye Feye might be worth a little more investigation. Generating its own Wi-Fi network, the device can be accessed by Android and iOS devices for remote shooting, complete with manual controls and Live View.

The device works by connecting to a DSLR via the USB port, at which point it projects a wireless signal that users can connect to with an iOS or Android device. Once connected, the feature then provides the same functionality you’d get from a WiFi-enabled camera, such as remote control and the ability to view footage from the camera in real time.

It's also more powerful than many other wireless options. Using 802.11n Wi-Fi technology, the Weye Feye can work at distances of up to 80 m (262 ft), and with a latency of a record 0.2 sec, shooting should be more responsive than other products. This could make the device useful even if your camera has wireless capabilities, but you need something a little more powerful.

It is possible for users to shoot from akward angles using Weye Feye

There’s both a Live View and a Gallery Mode. Live View is as the name suggests – a live video feed from the camera. The Gallery Mode, meanwhile, allows users to look at the images and content they’ve taken, as well as sharing those images with a different device. Different photography and video recording settings are available under Live View for adjusting picture and such without having to mess with the camera itself.

Camera control features include touch focus, the remote adjustment of settings such as ISO, aperture and shutter speed, changing metering mode, previewing depth of field and remote manual focus. However, capabilities vary depending on the camera, so it's worth checking before buying.

The Weye Feye is designed small in size, so the extra burden of toting around a wireless component isn’t too bothersome. The device measures 83 x 45 x 16.5 mm (3.3 x 1.8 x 0.6 in), and runs on a battery that lasts 14 hours in Gallery Mode and between 7 and 8 hours in Live View.

The Weye Feye is priced at €250 or US$332 and will be arriving in stores during September 2013.
