"World's Fastest" 64 GB MicroSDXC Card Unveiled By Sandisk

Sandisk unveils "world's fastest" 64 GB microSDXC card

Toshiba may have claimed a world’s fastest title with its new Exceria Pro SD memory cards that come in 16 and 32 GB capacities, but SanDisk has announced a new lineup of SanDisk Extreme Micro-SDXC cards. The Extreme will double the performance of the Ultra micro-SDXC cards, which was claiming to be the quickest in the world so far.

The microSDXC card provides up to 80MB/sec read and up to 50MB/sec write speeds allowing faster shot-to-shot performance, rapid data transfer, fast action photography, continuous burst mode and quick file transfers.

“The SanDisk Extreme microSDXC card allows users to do more with their devices,” said Susan Park, director, retail product marketing, SanDisk. “Our high-performance and high-capacity microSD cards enable consumers to take advantage of the high-quality HD video and imaging capabilities in the latest 4G smartphones, tablets and action cameras.”

The SanDisk Extreme microSDHC and microSDXC UHS-I cards are built for and tested in harsh conditions – they are waterproof, shockproof and resist x-rays and capable of operating in temperatures ranging from -13 to 185° F (-25 to 85° C).

The SanDisk Extreme 64GB takes over from the SanDisk Ultra 64GB as the top-capacity, high-speed small memory card on the company’s books. That card is rated for transfer speeds of up to 30MB/sec, making the Extreme model significantly quicker.

“Most high-end smartphones are now driven by high-speed quad-core processors, which deliver Full HD content and applications to large, high-resolution external displays," said Stuart Robinson, director, handset component technologies service, Strategy Analytics. “Such applications require high memory bandwidth which is ideal for the SanDisk Extreme microSDXC card, the world's fastest microSDXC memory solution.”

At the Extreme 64GB card’s launch, SanDisk marketing manager Ruben Dennenwaldt said the company is working on the next level of storage – 128GB – and is currently “making very good progress.”

SanDisk Extreme microSDHC and microSDXC cards are available now in 16GB to 64GB capacities for US$59.99 to US$199.99.
