Since 2001, Dutch company Stafier Holland has been developing a new type of rooftop solar panel that looks and acts like a roof tile. Current rooftop solar panels are slightly elevated from rooftops, making it difficult for architects to integrate them into existing rooftops. These new solar tiles solve that issue.

The system is waterproof, tested in a wind tunnel to prove that it can stand up to powerful storms, uses aluminum sheets to create a seal between your solar panels and ordinary tiles and given a 2013 Best of the Best Red Dot Design Award. A panel has four tiles that can generate up to 55 W of electrical power. The panels perform very well and are durable.

A ventilation system built into the rear of the tile helps keep them cool, as though PV panels like light, heat actually compromises their efficiency.
