LG unveiled World’s Slimmest Full HD LCD Smartphone Panel

LG is one of the leading innovator of display technology and is giving a tough competition to other companies that relate to display technology. LG has announced that it will unveil the world’s slimmest Full HD LCD panel for smartphones.

The working 5.2-inch panel boasts a 1,920 x 1,080 pixel resolution, and represents the first outing for a proprietary touch technology called Advanced One-Glass-Solution, where two flexible printed circuits are positioned between the glass and the touch layer,  reducing the number of lines on the panel by more than 30 percent. Utilization of a direct bonding system has also resulted in Optical Clear Resin between the panel and touch film for greater brightness.

The state-of-the-art 5.2-inch panel is an exciting advancement for the premium mobile device market enabling sleeker Full HD smartphones featuring better “grip-ability” and a superior viewing experience.

Only 2.2mm thin with a 2.3mm bezel, LG Display’s new panel is both slimmest and narrowest among existing Full HD LCD panels designed for mobile devices. It will give users a larger viewing area and an improved viewing experience over existing technologies. The developers say that the results have been independently-verified by global testing group Intertek. Additionally, the panel will make devices easier to grip as well as lighter in weight.

Leveraging a direct bonding system has also led to a high brightness panel. The 535-nit display's reported contrast ratio of 3.74:1 based on 10,000 lux should make it a good outdoor performer, even in strong sunlight.

The company can't say when, or even if, the results of its latest endeavors will hit the consumer space.

LG Display's latest development follows hot on the heals of a decidedly bendy 5-inch plastic OLED panel showcased at the Society for Information Display’s Display Week 2013 recently.
