It’s currently the “world’s thinnest smartphone” coming in at just 6.18mm thin, known as the Huawei Ascend P6 smartphone. We saw this phone plenty last month when it was initially announced, but today we’ll be taking a close look at this super thin phone. One that still manages to pack a quad-core processor and a 4.7-inch 720p HD display.
Huawei’s Ascend P6 sure is a good looking smartphone. They’ve managed to pack nearly top-tier specs into a super sleek and thin smartphone, while also making it extremely lightweight being just 120g. At the same time, it feels durable, well made, and just excellent in the hand. They hosted a beauty event for the unveiling, and it would have been pretty epic if such a similar design wasn’t already available from the iPhone. Yes, it looks like an iPhone a bit. |

Copy-cat looks aside, this thing is gorgeous. I’m actually finding myself wishing this was offered in the US, and with LTE, as it’s quite the device all things considered. However, it does have a few issues we’ll mention below. In the meantime check out our hands-on video and initial first impressions.
In case you didn’t watch the entire video, lets talk about the well-rounded specs they’ve packed into this thing. You’ll be working with a 4.7-inch 1280 x 720p HD display (no 1080p) which is LCD, but it looks pretty excellent from our initial time with it. Under the hood is Huawei’s own 1.5 GHz quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM, but it certainly won’t be topping any benchmarks or winning any awards for the fastest CPU.
You’ll also get an 8 megapixel rear and a massive 5 megapixel front set of cameras, 8GB of internal storage and a micro-SD slot, and finally a 2,000 mAh battery. Our only complaint is the battery size, and wish they’d have opted for something bigger. Sadly the “world’s thinnest” title was more important than battery life. We’ll have to test it in real use and let you know how it goes in our full review. Above is a few more pictures of the hardware, which again, is excellent.
Overall Huawei did a stellar job releasing a quality product. It’s small, thin, lightweight, and pretty. Yet doesn’t compromise on build quality. There’s no sharp or rough edges. It’s as polished as ever, and shows their recent attention to detail and quality.
Running on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, but highly customized, the experience was decent. We’re using one of their built-in themes in our video, and they have 6 or so pre-loaded for any users preference. Even pink if you ladies are interested. We’ll be digging through the hardware, software, camera, features, and more all in our full review. In the meantime let us know what you think, what you’d like to know, and we’ll report back shortly. Enjoy the photos below.
