Jay Blahnik, a globally recognized fitness expert and instrumental consultant in the development of several Nike fitness products, FuelBand, has confirmed his new role at Apple which also confirmed the rumor that Apple is developing iWatch.

The device, iWatch, will run a version of iOS, sport a 1.5-inch screen, and will sync up to your iPhone or iPad to provide constant analysis on your lifestyle. Like the Jawbone Up or Fitbit Flex, it might b
e able to track sleep habits. Or like the Pebble, it could provide you with alerts that are coming through to your smartphone, such as text messages, emails and phone calls. Hopefully it combines technology from both, and more.

The first piece of confirmation comes by way of a Tweet from Blahnik to a person asking if his hiring at Apple is true. Blahnik said “yes, it is true!” and called the opportunity “exciting.”

The story follows other reports that Apple is “aggressively” hiring new talent to work on its iWatch team, which may already have at least 100 engineers working on the product. It also recently acquired chip maker Passif, a firm that creates low-powered chips that could be used in a watch. Apple’s iWatch is expected to launch sometime in 2014 - which should give Blahnik plenty of time to provide his input.
