Sony Will Launch Playstation 4 In November

Sony will launch the PlayStation 4 in the US on November 15 and Europe on November 29

Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC, a division of Japanese consumer electronics giant Sony Corp., late Tuesday announced that the PlayStation4 or PS4 computer entertainment system will be available in North America on November 15, followed by Europe on November 29 as well as in 10 Latin American countries, including Argentina, Brazil and Chile on that day .

Twitch.tv, the popular video game footage streaming service, will be available on the PS4 video game console when it launches. By tapping the new "share" button on the PS4 controller, users will be able to broadcast gameplay directly to Twitch.

"We'll kick off the show at 18:00 BST [1PM EDT, 10AM PDT] on 20 August 2013 with a briefing to media on our release plans for PlayStation 4, as well as updates on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita," Sony posted on UK PlayStation blog.

Gamescom is Europe's biggest gaming convention of the year and the tech giant has chosen this platform to finally reveal the release date of the gadgets to the eagerly waiting fans.

The company is queued to host the media on 20 August, 2013 in Cologne, Germany and along with the announcement of the release date; the company will also release some of the games for the upcoming console. The Japanese company is also due to announce the updates of its existing consoles like PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.

Sony has more than 1 million pre-orders worldwide for its new PlayStation 4 console, the head of its SCE computer entertainment division informed. "The response we have received is nothing short of incredible," he said.

Curiously, Sony did not announce a release date for PlayStation 4 in its home country of Japan. In fact, it said that the new console would be coming to 32 countries this year, and the 32 countries it then listed in its press release following the Gamescom briefing does not include Japan.

Microsoft unveiled the Xbox One in May, its first new gaming console in eight years, marking its strongest push so far to dominate consumers' living rooms with an array of exclusive media content.

Microsoft Europe's vice-president of Interactive Entertainment Chris Lewis said on Tuesday pre-orders for the Xbox One were "unprecedented" but declined to give more details.

Sony said it has 33 games available in 2013, of which 15 will be on Blu-ray. The remaining 18 will be digital downloads.

The 15 Blue-ray disc titles include:

  1. NBA2
  2. Call of Duty: Ghosts
