LG Confirms Its New 8.3-Inch G Pad Tablet In A Video

The South Korean company appears to have confirmed earlier reports, teasing the device in a new ad on YouTube. The commercial doesn’t actually show the G Pad, instead featuring a handful of man-on-the-street interviews in which consumers are asked what they want in a tablet.

The answers give us an idea of what the G Pad 8.3 may look like, hinting at a pocket-sized slate with a fast processor and an HD display that’s great for watching movies. LG also suggests that the tablet will seamlessly sync with your other devices and cloud-based services.

“As exemplified by our recently introduced LG G2 smartphone, we are very focused on developing innovation that reflects the needs and desires of global consumers,” Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company said.

He added: “The LG G Pad 8.3 is the perfect form factor that delivers an exceptional viewing experience and we’re very proud to make it part of our G Series brand.”

The Android tablet is also expected to come equipped with a Full HD Plus 1920 x 1200-pixel display, a quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and aluminum casing. It is expected the tablet will be powered by Google’s Android OS.

LG G2 smartphone and LG G Pad look very similar, which is no surprise since they both fall under the company’s new G series branding.

There are a few small differences. The LG logo is at the top not the bottom on the tablet, and the speaker grill and front-facing camera have been moved to the top-right corner. Other than that, the two devices feature the same large rectangle shape, rounded edges and thin side bezels. It’s possible that the G Pad may also feature buttons on the back, although the rendering appears to depict a power button on the right side of the tablet near the top.

With the appearance of a teaser trailer, it seems certain the LG G Pad will launch during the IFA tech show in Berlin early next month. LG hasn’t set a date for a special event, but may simply choose to reveal it on the show floor, much like Samsung did with the Galaxy Note 8.0 – which is probably going to be one of its major competitors – at Mobile World Congress in February.
