Although my own home is not threatened by any of the fires, I live in Ventura County, California, and I have watched thick black smoke belching ominously over the hills in the distance. Astrologer Moses Siregar III, who skillfully weaves together Western and Eastern (Vedic) astrology, just wrote about the roles of Saturn and Ketu--the lunar south node--in the California wildfires. Ketu is often thought to be involved in mass disasters. You can read the article on his website, Astrology for the Soul, but here's an excerpt:
Ketu is in Vedic thought a very fiery planet. Saturn, in turn, rules air. Both are considered natural malefics. The combo of fire and air in an intense and difficult manner is pretty obvious here in terms of results. Additionally, Ketu rules fire and Saturn, according to many, rules structures and real estate. Pretty clear significations, no?
By the way, Saturn and Ketu conjoin about every eleven years, so this doesn't happen very often.
In terms of location, Vastu (vedic science of space, like Hindu Feng Shui) says that Saturn rules the West and the Moon's Nodes are sometimes said to rule the Southwest. Where are the fires? Literally in the West-Southwest corner of the country.

Great, thanks! I had wondered if the SN-Saturn conjunction would mean loss of an authority, perhaps a Democrat.
Moses did the very first natal chart consultation for me so I have a soft spot for him--and his work is always excellent! His Saturn-SN info is appreciated.
Another thing I had noticed about CA fires was that in 1993 brush fires which caused millions in damage, Mars (fire) was out-of-bounds in Cancer, sign of real estate--just as Mars is now.
Perhaps oob Mars = an arsonist? I've heard there is an eye witness report of a one at the start of the Harris fire.
Anyway, glad you're safe, Phillip!

Thanks so much, Jude! I feel very sorry for all the people who lost homes in these fires. Excellent observation about the OOB Mars in Cancer. Lynn Hayes' Astrodynamics also posted a blog about Mars in Cancer and the fires, with a link to Victoria Bazeley's blog. It's very interesting trying to understand the astrology for such a conflagration.
I didn't understand Moses' assessment when I received his newsletter. He calls Ketu a planet, but it's the South Node. Do the Vedics really think of the South Node as a planet?
Pat Paquette posted a comment on my site which I agree with - Jupiter in Sag squared by Uranus has a very fiery effect that always comes in surprising form.
Hi Lynn,
Thanks for pointing that out about the planet reference to Ketu. Vedic astrology refers to Rahu and Ketu, the north and south nodes of the Moon, as shadow planets--but certainly does not see them as planets like Venus, Mars, etc. I'm not sure if "shadow planet" is a translation from Sanskrit, but it kind of sounds like it. I think Vedic astrologers sometimes inadvertantly leave off "shadow" and just call them planets--although plainly they are not.
